Ray was lucky enough to see the America's Cup trophy in person whilst he was on work experience at Garrard & Co back in 1995. Garrard & Co craftsman manufactured the cup back in 1848 and it is now the oldest international sporting trophy.
Since the below photo was taken the trophy has grown in size quite significantly with a whole new silver plinth being added to the bottom to allow enough room for more champions to have their name engraved on it. The Cup was badly damaged in an attack in 1997 in New Zealand (click here for more information) and had to be shipped back to the UK for Garrard & Co to carry out the extensive restorations. It took the silversmiths 3 months and the Cup was then flown back to New Zealand in a first class seat of it's own! Not many people have had the chance to see traditional hand engraving done. The below video is a short example of how Ray works - with a hand push graver, eyeglass and GRS vice. In this video Ray is engraving a script monogram onto a sterling silver ring. You can see how the letter 'G' is almost completed in just one single cut! If you like a matching set you've come to the right place!
We offer signet rings, cufflinks, tie pins and money clips - which can all be personalised with a matching hand engraved design. You could have your family crest or coat of arms, or maybe you would prefer your initials or company logo, or perhaps a personalised patternwork? The options are endless when creating your very own bespoke matching set.... Ray recently had the great honour of being asked to engrave the Tasmanian Parliamentary Mace.
The Mace was donated to the Parliament in 1956 by the Davies family and was made by a local jeweller, Harlod F Sargison. The Mace is 1.35m in length and weighs 4.3kgs. It is made of sterling silver and 9ct yellow gold and includes many semi-precious Tasmanian gemstones. The signature of each Speaker has been hand engraved upon the main staff since 1856. If you follow London Engraver's Facebook and Instragram feeds you will have recently seen this Rolex Deepsea watch with it's nautical theme. This is Ray's latest commission and was designed in collaboration with the client who is a professional deepsea diver.
